“Would you recommend a touring kayak for fishing as I am unsure what type of Fishing Kayak to buy.”
Well most Touring Kayaks tend to track well and have very good glide, meaning they travel very quickly in a straight line with minimum effort. These two factors are good as it means you can get to fishing marks quickly and with little effort, it also means you can get out of trouble quickly – very important!
The down side is that primary stability is generally limited as it’s a pay off for speed. The kayak I use the RTM Disco is really a touring sit on top Kayak and sometimes I wish I had extra stability. Moving around in a short swell to get tackle or put fish into the hold can be a touch daunting at times, care is needed. However, I get to the marks quickly with plenty of energy in reserve.
Consider your choice carefully, if you have marks close by go for stability, if you are going to have to cover a lot of ground i.e. 3 – 4 miles to get to your fishing mark look at the touring types. For more information have a look here – choosing a fishing kayak
